Patna: In a major health scare in Bihar, over 70 students fell ill after eating a mid-day meal at the Upgraded Middle School in Karu Tola under the Madhepura Sadar block. The incident took place on Saturday, officials confirmed on Monday.

According to local authorities, the children began vomiting shortly after consuming the meal. Many complained of stomach pain and dizziness, leading to panic among school staff and parents. The affected students were immediately rushed to Madhepura Sadar Hospital for medical treatment.

Doctors attending to the children said that most of them are now out of danger. However, the condition of one girl remains critical and she is under close medical supervision.

Locals alleged that a lizard had fallen into the food served to the students, though officials have not yet confirmed this claim. The exact cause of the incident will be determined after a detailed investigation.

District Education Officer (DEO) Sanjay Kumar stated that an inquiry has been initiated into the matter. “An investigation has been initiated, and strict action will be taken against those found responsible,” he said.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about food safety and monitoring standards in government-run mid-day meal schemes. Authorities are expected to submit a detailed report after completing the investigation.
