Bihar is gearing up for a decisive political day as counting of votes for the 2025 Assembly Elections begins on Friday, November 14.

With a high voter turnout and exit polls indicating an edge for the Nitish Kumar-led NDA, the final numbers will determine who governs the state over the next five years.

Counting to Begin at 8 AM

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that counting will start at 8:00 am, with early leads expected by midday. A clearer picture of who is forming the next government is likely by evening.

Bihar recorded strong public participation in this election, with 68.76% turnout in Phase 2, 65.08% in Phase 1, and an overall turnout of 66.91%. Notably, women voters once again outpaced men, recording 71.6% turnout compared to 62.8% among male voters.

Exit Polls Give NDA a Clear Advantage

Exit polls have forecast a strong performance for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), with most agencies predicting that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar may return to power. The RJD-led Mahagathbandhan is projected to trail in the 243-seat Assembly.

Axis My India (AMI):

  • NDA: 121–141 seats (43% vote share)
  • Mahagathbandhan: 98–118 seats (41% vote share)
  • Jan Suraaj Party: Up to 2 seats

Today’s Chanakya:

  • NDA: 160 (+/-12)
  • Mahagathbandhan: 77 (+/-13)

A poll of polls pegs the NDA around 148 seats, the Mahagathbandhan at about 88, while other parties may secure roughly 7 seats.

In the 2020 Assembly polls, the NDA won 125 seats against the Mahagathbandhan’s 110, with the BJP and JD(U) forming the core of the ruling alliance.

As counting begins this year, the big question is whether Nitish Kumar will extend his long tenure as chief minister, or if Tejashwi Yadav’s coalition will script an upset in Bihar’s political landscape.
