Bharat Forge Limited inaugurated a machining facility for aircraft landing gear components at Mundhwa in Pune. The facility has been developed in collaboration with Liebherr-Aerospace & Transportation SAS, marking a significant milestone in strengthening India’s capabilities in high-value aerospace manufacturing.

With the commissioning of the new facility, Bharat Forge becomes among the first companies in India and one of the few globally operating at scale to run OEM-approved machining capabilities for landing gear components, a critical and highly specialised segment of aircraft manufacturing.

The development is expected to reinforce India’s position within the global aerospace supply chain, while also expanding the country’s footprint in the production of precision-engineered aerospace components.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior executives from Liebherr-Aerospace, including Martin Wandel, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of the company; Philipp Walter, Managing Director of Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg GmbH; and Bernd Schacherl.

Senior representatives from Liebherr India Private Limited, including Managing Directors Sanjay Prasad and Sunil Kalra, were also present at the event.

From Bharat Forge, the ceremony was led by Amit Kalyani, Vice-Chairman and Joint Managing Director of the company, along with Guru Biswal, Chief Executive Officer of Bharat Forge’s aerospace division.

Bharat Forge said the newly inaugurated facility forms part of its broader strategy to develop a comprehensive and integrated aerospace manufacturing portfolio in India.

The company currently manufactures a wide range of aerospace components, including turbine and compressor parts, forged rings, shafts, discs, airframe structures, and landing gear elements for global aerospace programmes.

In addition, Bharat Forge is also setting up an advanced aerospace ring mill in India to produce high-value forged rings used in aero-engine programmes. The investment is aimed at strengthening the company’s capabilities in precision aerospace manufacturing and expanding its participation in global aerospace supply chains.

Speaking at the inauguration, Amit Kalyani described the facility as an important milestone in the company’s aerospace journey. “This state-of-the-art facility planned in partnership with Liebherr-Aerospace is a very significant milestone in Bharat Forge’s journey in the aerospace sector and a testament to our ability to add value to our customer relationships,” he said.

Martin Wandel, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of Liebherr-Aerospace & Transportation SAS, said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to innovation and technological excellence in aerospace manufacturing.

“We are proud and pleased to embark on this partnership with Bharat Forge, a strong and highly technological industry leader. Together we are building a state-of-the-art facility tailored precisely to the requirements of the global aerospace industry,” Wandel said.

The facility is expected to further strengthen India’s position as an emerging hub for precision aerospace manufacturing and advanced engineering, as global aerospace companies increasingly look to diversify and expand their supply chains.
