Bengaluru is all set for a significant transformation with the recent official launch of the Swift City near Sarjapura. The new urban project has garnered immense attention and is expected to rival the discussions around Kwin City. Located between Dabaspet and Doddballapur, Swift City will be an extension of Bengaluru, further cementing its status as the largest city in South India.
Swift stands for Startups, Workspaces, Innovation, Finance and Technology—sectors the city aims to prioritise. The city’s development is expected to challenge the rise of Tamil Nadu’s Hosur and boost Bengaluru’s reputation as the startup hub of the country, says Karnataka Minister M B Patil.
The 1,000-acre Swift City will cater to startups, similar to Bengaluru's Electronic City and ITPL. Specialised spaces will be created to nurture the growth of emerging businesses. The city's proximity to key highways like NH 44 and NH 48 further enhances its growth potential. Also, multiple plug-and-play centres will be established, offering all necessary amenities for new ventures, each ranging from 20 to 25 acres.
In parallel, the Kwin City project is also underway, with a focus on knowledge and innovation. Located near Kempegowda International Airport, Kwin City will span 2,000 acres and attract investments of ₹40,000 crore. Key industries such as advanced manufacturing, life sciences, aerospace, and defence will take centre stage here, with the project expected to create 80,000 new jobs.
The rapid development of these two new cities is set to make Bengaluru more competitive within South India, with cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kochi posing tough competition. The Karnataka government is positioning these projects as a strong challenge to any city aspiring to rival Bengaluru’s dominance. The message is clear: competing with Bengaluru won't be easy.
