Bengaluru is set to receive its first pre-monsoon rainfall of the year, along with several districts in South Interior Karnataka and Coastal Karnataka, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The forecast follows the city's hottest day of the year recorded on March 7.
The Bengaluru Meteorological Centre has predicted isolated light rainfall and thundershowers in 12 districts, including Bengaluru Urban, between March 11 and 13.
Showers expected in select Karnataka districts
Rainfall is expected in Kolar, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapura, Tumakuru, Ramanagara, Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu and Hassan in South Interior Karnataka, as well as in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi in Coastal Karnataka. However, the rest of the state is likely to remain dry.
No much relief from heat
Despite the forecasted showers, temperatures are expected to remain high. In Bengaluru Urban, the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 34°C and 20°C, respectively, on March 11. The IMD has also indicated that coastal districts will continue to experience hot and humid conditions.
The department has issued an advisory for individuals with moderate health concerns, including infants, the elderly and those with chronic illnesses, urging them to avoid excessive heat exposure.
