Bengaluru: In a major digital mobility upgrade, Bengaluru Metro has launched QR-based ticketing through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), allowing passengers to book their rides on nine new apps beyond the existing options. This move, announced by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), is expected to enhance convenience and streamline multimodal travel for lakhs of daily commuters.

Which apps now support Bengaluru Metro ticket booking?

Alongside the official Namma Metro app, Paytm, and BMRCL’s WhatsApp chatbot, tickets can now be booked through the following apps:

  • EaseMyTrip
  • Highway Delite
  • Miles & Kilometres (via Telegram)
  • Namma Yatri
  • OneTicket
  • Rapido
  • Redbus
  • Tummoc
  • Yatri – City Travel Guide

What does the ONDC integration mean for commuters?

According to BMRCL Managing Director Maheshwar Rao, the ONDC-powered integration enables commuters to plan and book their full journey — including autos, cabs, and now metro — within a single app. Since 2023, several ride-hailing services have been available via ONDC. The inclusion of metro ticketing marks a key milestone in achieving seamless first-, middle-, and last-mile connectivity in Bengaluru.

“This expansion supports our vision of building a smart, interconnected urban transport network,” Rao said. “Commuters can now book everything from doorstep to destination through a single platform, saving time and effort.”

How does QR-based metro ticketing work?

Once a ticket is booked via a supported app, a QR code is generated, which can be scanned at the metro gate for entry. This reduces the need for physical tokens and paper tickets, thereby simplifying the commuter experience.

With Bengaluru’s metro system expanding and traffic woes increasing, digital ticketing systems like ONDC integration play a crucial role in reducing commuter friction. It not only improves efficiency but also promotes sustainable, smart mobility practices.

BMRCL’s initiative is also seen as a step towards greater inclusivity, offering commuters more platforms and greater flexibility when planning their routes.
