Kolkata: Three passengers sustained injuries at Bardhaman railway station on Sunday evening after losing balance and falling on the foot overbridge (FOB) near Platform 4.

According to railway officials, the incident occurred when a woman travelling on the stairs lost her footing. Her fall caused a chain reaction, as other passengers on the stairs were affected and also fell.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and station staff immediately attended to the injured. On-site railway doctors provided first aid before the passengers were shifted to Bardhaman Medical College for further treatment.

Officials confirmed that there were no fatalities and train operations were not disrupted. Authorities also clarified that the station was not overcrowded at the time, and there was no stampede.

An eyewitness described the situation, saying, “Three train passengers were on the stairs when a push-pull movement occurred, causing one to fall on another.” Indian Railways reminded commuters to exercise caution while using foot overbridges, particularly during peak hours, and to hold onto handrails to prevent accidents.

The station authorities have also indicated that safety audits of all FOBs at Bardhaman station are being reviewed to ensure similar incidents do not recur.
