New Delhi: “Heard about the Chattisgarh Elephant Tracking and Alert app? Yes, you heard it right!”. The app powered by artificial intelligence will keep sending alert messages as wild jumbos approach closer to residential areas. This will be followed by phone calls informing the same.

For example, the messages will initially read like this, “There is a wild elephant just 10 kilometres away from you. Please be cautious. Inform others as well!”

Thanks to the app, such messages will be directly sent to your mobile phones.

The app has been a real changer in the state of Chattisgarh. Until a year ago, the state was reeling under continuous human-wildlife conflicts. An average of 110 people lost their lives in such incidents every month.

But interestingly, ever since the app started functions in February 2023, not even a single person was killed in incidents of human-wildlife conflicts.

The above claim was made by Varun Jain, founder of the unique app. He also functions as the deputy director at the Udanti Sitanadi Tiger Reserve.

The app is touted to be low-cost and effective.

“Apart from wild jumbos, the technology shall also provide information on the incoming of leopards, wild buffaloes and bears,” Varun Jain told Mathrubhumi.

The application was put into use in Jharkhand as well. Soon it will be implemented in other states, including Karnataka.
