In a significant political development in West Bengal, the Ritabrata Banerjee-led faction of the Trinamool Congress on Saturday announced its list of district presidents, with former Birbhum strongman Anubrata Mondal being named the district president of Birbhum.

Mondal's appointment is being seen as a major shift in the state's political landscape, with the veteran leader now aligning with the Ritabrata camp. The announcement came while Mondal was in Birbhum.

The faction also inducted former Rajya Sabha MP Shantanu Sen into its state committee.

The newly announced district presidents are:

  • Howrah: Arunava (Raja) Sen
  • Paschim Medinipur: Pradip Sarkar
  • Ghatal: Sanjay
  • Bankura: Rathin Bandyopadhyay
  • Purulia: Ujjal Kumar
  • Purba Bardhaman: Rabindranath Chattopadhyay
  • Paschim Bardhaman: Nagendranath Chattopadhyay
  • Birbhum: Anubrata Mondal
  • Diamond Harbour: Subhashish Das
  • Sundarban: Ganesh Mondal
  • North Kolkata: Sandeepan Saha
  • South Kolkata: Debashis Kumar
  • Howrah Sadar: Srishtidhar Ghosh

Former Panihati MLA Nirmal Ghosh also attended the meeting. Ghosh had earlier courted controversy after his name surfaced in connection with allegations surrounding the hurried cremation of the RG Kar rape and murder victim.

Addressing the issue, Ritabrata Banerjee said no discussion or decision had been taken regarding Ghosh despite his presence at the meeting.
