A video of JD(U) MLA Anant Singh smoking inside Patna’s IGIMS hospital goes viral, sparking criticism and raising questions over lawmaker conduct. Opposition leaders slam the legislator for breaking rules while admitted to the hospital.

New Delhi: JD(U) MLA Anant Singh has come under fire after a video allegedly showing him smoking inside a hospital went viral on social media. The footage reportedly captures Singh at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in Patna, where he was admitted for medical examinations while lodged in Beur jail.
The video triggered widespread criticism, with opposition leaders questioning the lawmaker’s conduct and the government’s tolerance. RJD spokesperson Priyanka Bharti shared the clip on X, commenting, “Not a Hero, But a Villain...Nitish ji's favourite villain is doing reels while smoking a cigarette in the hospital!”
Anant Singh, a JD(U) legislator from Mokama, was arrested earlier in connection with the murder of Dular Chand Yadav, a supporter of the Jan Suraaj Party. Despite his arrest, he contested the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections and won, defeating RJD’s Veena Singh by 28,206 votes.
Mokama is known as a bastion for influential and controversial political figures. Singh, along with his family members, including brother Dilip Singh and Surajbhan Singh, has long been a prominent figure in the constituency.
The incident has sparked debates over MLAs breaking rules in public institutions, with many questioning how a jailed legislator could flout norms inside a hospital.
