New Delhi: A viral social media post claiming that Union Home Minister Amit Shah warned of a “major crisis” and asked Indians to “skip one meal if possible” has been declared fake by the Press Information Bureau Fact Check team.

The post surfaced online amid growing discussions around fuel conservation and the economic impact of the ongoing West Asia crisis.

However, PIB Fact Check clarified that Amit Shah had “not made any such statement” and urged citizens to rely only on official government sources for verified information.

The fake post gained traction after Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently appealed to citizens to reduce fuel consumption and adopt energy-saving measures due to disruptions caused by the West Asia crisis.

Earlier, addressing a gathering in Vadodara, Modi urged people to make greater use of public transport and electric vehicles, defer non-essential purchases such as gold, and opt for work-from-home arrangements wherever possible. He also asked citizens to reduce foreign travel as global uncertainties continue.

Calling the West Asia situation “one of the worst crises in the decade,” the Prime Minister said India would overcome the challenge just as it navigated the COVID-19 pandemic.

The viral Amit Shah image appears to have been shared in this backdrop, with several social media users falsely linking the Home Minister to a public appeal on food consumption.

PIB Fact Check said the statement attributed to Amit Shah was completely fabricated and warned users against circulating unverified content online.

The agency also advised people to cross-check suspicious claims, photos, and videos related to the Central Government through official channels before sharing them further.
