New Delhi: Congress leader Alka Lamba congratulated Rekha Gupta on becoming Delhi's fourth woman Chief Minister. Lamba extended her best wishes for Gupta’s leadership, hoping the new administration would fulfill its promises, including cleaning the Yamuna and ensuring women's safety.
Lamba shared a nostalgic photo from 1995, where she and Rekha Gupta took an oath together. In her post, Lamba wrote: "This memorable photo from 1995 - when Rekha Gupta and I took oath together. I won the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) Adhyaksh post from NSUI and Rekha won the MahaSachiv post from ABVP. Congratulations and best wishes to Rekha Gupta."

Meanwhile, BJP leader Rekha Gupta, elected by her party’s newly elected MLAs, met Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, Vinai Kumar Saxena, and staked her claim to form the new government. Gupta is set to take the oath of office as Chief Minister in a ceremony at Ramlila Maidan in the national capital.
Celebration, support for Rekha Gupta
The announcement of Rekha Gupta as the next Chief Minister was met with celebrations from BJP workers and supporters. Gupta’s husband, Manish Gupta, along with her supporters, also joined the celebrations.
In a heartfelt message, Rekha Gupta expressed gratitude to the party for entrusting her with the Chief Minister's role. She promised to work with full honesty, integrity, and dedication for the welfare and empowerment of every citizen of Delhi. Gupta said, "I express my heartfelt gratitude to the top leadership for trusting me and entrusting me with the responsibility of the post of Chief Minister. This trust and support have given me new energy and inspiration. I pledge that I will work with full honesty, integrity and dedication for the welfare, empowerment and overall development of every citizen of Delhi. I am fully committed to this important opportunity to take Delhi to new heights."
She also thanked the BJP and expressed gratitude for the blessings she received from the people. "I thank BJP, and I am grateful for the blessings of all of you," she told the media.
Rekha Gupta’s swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow, and all arrangements for the event have been made. The BJP's victory in Delhi marked a historic shift, as the party won 48 seats earlier this month, ousting the Aam Aadmi Party from power after 27 years.
BJP central observers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Om Prakash Dhankar attended the meeting of newly elected MLAs to confirm Gupta’s position.
