The incident, involving a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, resulted in 260 fatalities, including those on board and on the ground.

Ahmedabad: Air India is facing a legal challenge in the United Kingdom following the tragic crash of one of its passenger aircraft in Ahmedabad in June 2025 that claimed 260 lives.
Court records show that a personal injury lawsuit has been filed at the High Court in London by 11 claimants, who are family members and legal representatives of some of the victims who died in the accident. The case was registered on December 18, though further details of the claims have not yet been made public.
The accident occurred on June 12, 2025, when a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner operating a scheduled flight from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick crashed shortly after take-off. The aircraft was carrying 242 people on board. Within seconds of becoming airborne, the jet began to lose altitude and crashed into a medical college hostel building, erupting into a massive fireball.
Only one passenger survived the crash. In addition to the 241 people who died on board the aircraft, the crash also killed 19 people who were on the ground inside the hostel building, taking the total death toll to 260.
Air India has not issued an immediate statement on the London lawsuit. Lawyers representing the families who filed the case have also not commented so far.
In a separate legal action, the families of four passengers who died in the crash have filed a lawsuit in the United States against Boeing and Honeywell. The US lawsuit alleges that the accident may have been caused by faulty fuel control switches fitted on the aircraft. Honeywell manufactured these switches.
The US-based claim, filed in September, accuses both Boeing and Honeywell of being responsible for the crash due to the alleged defect in the fuel system components.
Investigations into the cause of the accident are still ongoing, and the legal proceedings in both the UK and the US are expected to bring further scrutiny to aircraft safety systems and manufacturer responsibilities.
