Raksha Bandhan is all about celebrating the bond between siblings, and this year, Air India Express is taking a little bit of that festive warmth onboard its flights. On August 27 and 28, passengers travelling across the airline’s domestic and international network will receive limited-edition Rakhis from the cabin crew as part of a special in-flight celebration.
The initiative marks the fourth consecutive year that Air India Express has celebrated Raksha Bandhan with its passengers. Through a simple gesture, the airline hopes to bring a familiar part of the festival closer to travellers, especially those who may be flying away from their families.
Familiar tradition onboard
For many Indians, Raksha Bandhan is a time to return home, meet siblings and celebrate together. But work, travel and distance can often keep families apart.
Air India Express is using the occasion to bring a small part of that tradition into the aircraft cabin. The Rakhis are being shared with guests travelling across the airline’s network, turning an ordinary flight into a small festive celebration.
The airline said the initiative has, over the years, created memorable moments for passengers, with the gesture prompting smiles, conversations and even calls to siblings waiting back home.

Air India Express currently serves 48 domestic and 16 international destinations, with more than 3,000 weekly flights across India, Southeast Asia and West Asia.
With a fleet of more than 100 Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircraft, the airline connects travellers across a wide network, including many passengers travelling for work, family commitments and festive occasions.
For those flying during Raksha Bandhan, the limited-edition Rakhi offers a small reminder that even when celebrations happen thousands of kilometres away from home, traditions can still travel with us. And sometimes, it is these small gestures that make a journey feel a little more personal.
