New Delhi: India has successfully conducted the test launch of the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime missile from a rail-based mobile launcher system, marking a major milestone in the country’s strategic defence capabilities.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh confirmed the successful test via a post on X, highlighting the advanced features of the next-generation missile, which has a strike range of up to 2,000 km.

This marks the first-ever launch of its kind from a specially designed mobile rail launcher, capable of moving across the railway network without preconditions. The system allows for rapid deployment, cross-country mobility, and reduced detection visibility, offering a crucial strategic edge.

Singh congratulated the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Strategic Forces Command (SFC), and the Indian Armed Forces for the achievement, noting that India now joins a select group of nations with canisterised missile launch capabilities from a rail-based mobile platform.

This development significantly enhances India's second-strike capability and reinforces its deterrence posture.
