Australian Federal Police have identified a young person who allegedly posted an online threat targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his Australia visit.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) has identified a young person accused of posting an online threat targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his official visit to Australia, with authorities confirming that the individual has been issued a formal warning following an investigation.
The threat surfaced in the comments section of a Facebook post promoting the 'Melbourne Meets Modi' community event, which is scheduled to take place at Melbourne's Marvel Stadium on July 9 during the Prime Minister's visit.
PM Modi is expected to travel to Australia this week for bilateral discussions with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Besides official engagements, he is also set to address members of the Indian diaspora at the Melbourne event.
The threatening social media post triggered an investigation by the AFP. Officials later confirmed they had traced the individual responsible and spoke to the person on Friday before deciding to issue a formal warning.
In a statement, the AFP said it does not publicly identify individuals involved in such cases but stressed that any threat directed at federal parliamentarians, senior office holders or visiting international dignitaries is treated with utmost seriousness.
Authorities also clarified that their assessment found no immediate or ongoing danger to the public. ‘There is no current or impending risk to the community. Following an assessment of the matter, the young person was issued a formal warning,’ the AFP said.
According to reports, the matter was referred to the AFP shortly after the threatening comment appeared online, allowing investigators to quickly begin tracing its source.
While the post contained a direct threat linked to the Prime Minister's visit, Australian authorities have maintained that there is no continuing security concern surrounding the upcoming engagements.
