Bengaluru: Actor Pranitha Subhash took to X on January 13 to express her frustration over roadblocks in the city, alleging that streets leading to the city centre and Koramangala were blocked due to the movement of a politician.
“This is frustrating! Roads enroute city centre and Koramangala blocked causing a lot of issues for all the civilians just for some VIP movement of some politician! She described the situation as unfair to ordinary commuters and criticised VIP culture, saying it often causes more problems than progress for the public. Her tweet resonated with many social media users, who shared their own experiences of delays caused by political convoys and security arrangements.
Traffic congestion linked to VIP movement has been a recurring issue in Bengaluru. Roads are frequently closed or diverted during political visits, foreign dignitary events, and official convoys, leading to long delays for commuters, office-goers, and emergency services. Residents have repeatedly criticised such disruptions and called for better planning and accountability.
Pranitha Subhash is a Bengaluru-born actress known for her work across Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and Malayalam films. She debuted in 2010 with the Kannada film Porki and rose to fame with hits such as Attarintiki Daredi and Bheema Theeradalli.
Public reactions to her tweet were mixed. While many supported her, some argued that certain roadblocks and security protocols are unavoidable, especially during visits by foreign dignitaries, such as the German Chancellor to a corporate campus near Koramangala. Others questioned whether similar complaints are raised during political leaders’ visits or election campaigns, highlighting the selective nature of public outrage.
Traffic authorities also shared advisories indicating congestion in key areas due to official events. Overall, the responses underscore a persistent tension in Bengaluru: balancing the security needs of VIPs with the daily mobility requirements of residents, a challenge that continues to fuel public debate and frustration.
