This allows you to manage your EPF account, check balances, transfer funds, and more, regardless of job changes

The Universal Account Number (UAN) is a unique 12-digit identifier assigned by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) to every EPF member. It serves as a permanent number linking multiple Member IDs assigned by different employers throughout an individual’s career.
Contrary to common misconceptions, UAN activation is a one-time process that remains valid for life regardless of job changes, eliminating the need for repeated activations.

Activation can be completed online via the EPFO member portal or the UMANG app by following these structured steps:
- Access the Portal: Visit the official EPFO member portal and click on the "Activate UAN" link.
- Enter Details: Provide your UAN, Aadhaar number, full name, date of birth, registered mobile number, and the captcha code.
- Request Authorisation PIN: Tick the consent box and click on "Get Authorisation PIN."
- Verify OTP: Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number to confirm your details.
- Activate UAN: Click "Validate OTP and Activate UAN" to complete the process.
- Receive Credentials: A temporary password will be sent via SMS, which you can use to log in to the portal.
Once activated, the UAN allows seamless access to EPF services such as managing accounts, checking balances, transferring funds, submitting withdrawal claims, and updating personal details.
In cases where multiple UANs exist due to job switches or discrepancies, employees should consolidate all accounts through the "One Member One EPF Account" facility on the EPFO portal to avoid complications.
Employers are also responsible for ensuring that employees’ UANs are activated for smooth Provident Fund account management.
This streamlined and lifelong activation process simplifies EPF access, providing employees with greater control and uninterrupted management of their retirement savings.
