EPFO 3.0 set to transform provident fund services in 2025 with ATM and UPI withdrawals, faster claims, and enhanced digital experience

Although initially slated for a June 2025 rollout, the launch has been delayed due to ongoing technical testing to ensure a secure and glitch-free experience. The new digital system, developed with IT giants Infosys, Wipro, and TCS, aims to simplify PF management with features designed for today's mobile-first users.
Key features of EPFO 3.0 include:
- ATM Withdrawals: Members will be able to withdraw PF funds directly from ATMs by activating their Universal Account Number (UAN) and linking Aadhaar with their bank accounts. This will provide instant cash access, especially useful in emergencies.
- UPI-Based Withdrawals: In line with India’s expanding digital payments ecosystem, the platform will enable seamless PF withdrawals via UPI, reducing delays and paperwork.
- Online Claims and Corrections: Employees can submit and update claims online, verify details using OTP, and track claim statuses in real-time, eliminating the need for physical visits to EPFO offices.
- Fast Settlement of Death Claims: The process for nominees, particularly for minors, is simplified by eliminating guardianship certificates, ensuring quicker financial assistance to families.
- Enhanced Mobile Experience: EPFO 3.0 features a responsive and intuitive digital dashboard for users to access contribution records, claim updates, and account details anytime, promoting transparency and ease of use.
Sanjeev Sanyal, Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the PM, acknowledged the scale of this reform on his official X account: “A big effort to de-clog EPFO is under way. No easy task. Look forward to feedback once this is launched and system stabilises.”
Officials state that this digital upgrade is one of the most noteworthy reforms in the EPFO’s history, aimed at decongesting workflows and delivering faster, more reliable services to millions of subscribers.
