New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers and volunteers in Kalkaji's Govindpuri area are reportedly facing threats, intimidation, and abuse from BJP workers, according to a complaint filed by Delhi Chief Minister and AAP nominee, Atishi, to the Election Commission.

Atishi’s complaint, submitted to the Returning Officer on Tuesday, highlights recent incidents of verbal abuse and physical altercations against AAP workers by BJP supporters. The Delhi CM has called for the deployment of security forces in the constituency to safeguard AAP volunteers and ensure a safe atmosphere during the election period.

In her letter, Atishi expressed alarm over BJP workers' aggressive behaviour. “BJP workers are openly threatening AAP volunteers without any fear. It is alarming that if these workers are getting so aggressive with AAP, then one can imagine the kind of influence it would have on voters in these areas,” she wrote.

BJP Candidate Ramesh Bidhuri’s Derogatory Remarks
Atishi also brought up BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri, accusing him of making “insulting and derogatory” remarks against her. She further stated that Bidhuri had gone “unpunished” for his abusive language, which, according to her, has emboldened BJP workers to escalate their actions.

Allegations of Verbal and Physical Assault on AAP Workers
Atishi provided a detailed account of the verbal and physical assaults on AAP workers, mentioning individuals like Rakha Bassi, Sanjay Gupta, Aradhna, Sumita Pandey, Sher Singh, and Hari Shankar Gupta, who faced aggression from BJP supporters. These workers were reportedly grabbed by the collar, verbally abused, and threatened with physical harm. In one incident, an AAP volunteer was even slapped during a door-to-door campaign.

Threat to Free and Fair Elections
Atishi warned that the prevailing atmosphere of violence posed a threat to the integrity of the elections in Kalkaji. She stressed the need for immediate action to ensure a fair and safe election environment for all.
