New Delhi: A 15-year-old boy from Delhi has achieved 96.6 percent in the CBSE Class 10 board examinations while continuing his fight against cancer, balancing months of treatment with studies carried out from hospital beds as he works towards his ambition of becoming a space researcher.

Aarav, a resident of Mehrauli, continued his education alongside ongoing medical treatment. According to his father, Ajai Arora, the teenager frequently attended classes from hospital settings and prepared for examinations during short periods of recovery.

Arora, who is a doctor, told that Aarav was diagnosed with cancer in 2022 and underwent spine surgery. Following this, he remained restricted to home and hospital care for nearly one year. At that time, he was in Class 7.

Strong determination despite difficult circumstances

“Despite everything, he did not give up on studies. Even in the hospital, he attended online classes. The school supported him throughout,” his father said.

The family admitted that their expectations were initially very modest due to the severity of his condition.

“We just hoped he would pass somehow. But this result has left us speechless,” Arora said.

Family celebrations and emotional support

Following the announcement of his results, the family has been celebrating the achievement, with relatives visiting to congratulate Aarav. Arora added that they are planning to gift him something, although the teenager had never asked for anything.

He also described his son as highly focused and naturally curious, noting that Aarav often read about his medical condition and asked questions during treatment.

“It was a tough phase, but with support from friends and counsellors, he stayed positive,” he said.

Aiming for a future in space science

Aarav has a strong interest in mathematics and hopes to pursue astrophysics in the future. His ambition is to become a researcher with leading space organisations, including the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and NASA. He also spends time reading books about inspirational personalities.

CBSE results overview

The CBSE announced the Class 10 results on Wednesday. Delhi recorded an overall pass percentage of 97.38 percent, an improvement from 95.14 percent in the previous year.

Among the two regions in the capital, west Delhi reported a pass percentage of 97.45 percent, slightly higher than east Delhi’s 97.33 percent. Both regions showed progress compared with last year, when west Delhi stood at 95.24 percent and east Delhi at 95.07 percent.
