Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government is making strides towards inclusivity with the establishment of 'Rhythm', an art collective comprising differently-abled individuals. The initiative is being led by the state's Department of Social Justice, and preparations are in full swing as the group gears up for their inaugural performance.
With over 40 percent of its members identifying as differently-abled, the collective aims to showcase their talents and gain recognition in the state's cultural landscape. Abhishek, a member of the group, expressed their aspirations, stating, "We want to go viral; we want to be known far and wide."
The final rehearsals are currently undergoing, with experts from various fields providing guidance and support during the training camp. A total of 30 members are involved, including both young men and women aged between 18 and 40. Their first performance is scheduled for October 23 in Thiruvananthapuram, where they will participate in government-organised cultural events.
The 'Rhythm' initiative was made possible through a collaborative talent search conducted by the Social Security Mission and the Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council. The two-hour performance will include classical dance, cinematic dance, and singing. More shows are planned for various cultural venues across the state.
