Kochi: A team of officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested a foreign couple at Nedumbassery Airport on drug smuggling charges.

The Tanzanian couple arrived at the airport on Thursday on a flight from Oman. They had allegedly swallowed drugs in capsule form, and the DRI team took them into custody. A medical examination at Aluva Taluk Hospital revealed that they had concealed cocaine worth Rs 30 crore inside their bodies.

Approximately two kilograms of cocaine were recovered from the man's stomach. After the extraction, he was remanded in custody. It is believed that a similar quantity of drugs remains inside the woman's body. She is still in hospital for the potential extraction of the drugs.
