A 27-year-old software engineer was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside a homestay room in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, during a trip with her husband, prompting a police investigation into the incident.

The deceased, identified as P Radha Gayatri, worked for an IT company in Gurugram and was residing in East Delhi. Originally from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, she had married Soumya Sricharan in November 2025.

According to police, the couple travelled from Delhi and reached Mussoorie after visiting Rishikesh. They checked into Kiana Homestay late on June 14 and stayed in a room named ‘Bliss’.

Investigators said the couple reportedly consumed alcohol after arriving at the property. Based on the husband's statement, they went to sleep at around 3.30 am.

The incident came to light the following morning when Gayatri was found unresponsive inside the room. Police and emergency responders who reached the scene found her lying on the floor.

Officials reported that blood was visible around her nose, while bloodstains were also found on the bedsheet.

A pool of urine was noticed near the body. Two empty liquor bottles and food items were recovered from the room during the initial inspection.

Sricharan told investigators that he woke up and found his wife unconscious before alerting the homestay staff and seeking emergency assistance.

A forensic team later examined the room and collected samples and other evidence for further analysis.

Police have also recorded statements as part of the investigation and are attempting to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the death.

Officials are focusing on the period between approximately 3.30 am, when the couple reportedly went to sleep, and around 7.30 am, when the incident was discovered.

Investigators are working to determine the exact circumstances that led to Gayatri's death. Authorities have not announced a cause of death and have not ruled out any possibilities.

To ensure a thorough probe, police have ordered a post-mortem examination by a panel of doctors and directed that the procedure be videographed.

The findings of the autopsy, along with forensic evidence collected from the room, are expected to play a key role in establishing the cause of death.

Until those reports are received, police have refrained from drawing conclusions, and the case remains under investigation.
