Mumbai: A retired senior police officer of the Mumbai police has been booked for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and crashing into several vehicles in Navi Mumbai’s Seawoods West area. The incident took place on Saturday evening at Karave village and led to damage to multiple vehicles, though no serious injuries were reported.

According to police officials, the accused has been identified as Arun Baban Pokharkar. He was allegedly speeding through Karave village when he rammed his car into four to five parked and moving vehicles. The impact caused panic among motorists and local residents in the area.

Angry locals reportedly stopped the vehicle, pulled the driver out and assaulted him before police personnel reached the spot. Officers who arrived at the scene searched the vehicle and recovered an identity card and police nameplate, confirming that the accused was a retired police officer.

Senior Inspector Devendra Pol of the NRI police station said that during preliminary inquiry and medical examination, the accused was found to be under the influence of alcohol. A case of drunk driving has been registered against him.

After completing the required medico-legal formalities, Pokharkar was released. Police have said that further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
