Police seize the caravan involved in the Ranjith sexual assault case as investigations shift toward those who allegedly helped the director evade arrest.

Further investigations are underway regarding director Ranjith’s alleged attempt to evade arrest in a sexual assault case. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has successfully located the caravan where the incident reportedly took place. Reports indicate that while the vehicle lacks internal CCTV, officers are working to recover external footage. In addition, the SIT is set to question actor Bobby Kurian and assistant director Shalini, as it is suspected they aided Ranjith in his attempt to escape.
The investigation team revealed that Ranjith attempted to flee to avoid arrest ahead of two consecutive public holidays, fearing that securing bail would be difficult during that period. Suspecting third-party assistance in his evasion, police are now focusing on the roles played by Kurian and Shalini.
Director Ranjith is currently in judicial remand following allegations of sexually assaulting a young actress inside a film set caravan on January 19. After being arrested in Thodupuzha on Tuesday night, he was produced before Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate L Usha at her residence around 8.30 am on Wednesday. The court ordered judicial custody after the police argued that the accused posed a threat to women's safety and should be denied bail.
Ranjith is currently held at the Ernakulam Sub Jail, facing charges including sexual assault, outraging the modesty of a woman, making sexually coloured remarks, and wrongful confinement. While Ranjith has filed a bail application citing physical ailments and claiming the case is a fabricated conspiracy—set to be heard this Saturday—FEFKA’s Directors’ and Writers’ Unions have already expelled him following the arrest.
