Thamarassery, Kozhikode: A youth was taken into custody by the police on Friday on suspicion of swallowing MDMA. He was later shifted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for further medical examination.
The arrested individual, identified as Fayis, was taken into custody after local residents reported him to the police for causing a commotion at his residence.
It is suspected that he swallowed MDMA in an attempt to evade arrest. Following a preliminary examination at Thamarassery Taluk Hospital, he was referred to Kozhikode Medical College for further treatment.
This incident comes just weeks after a similar case in the Thamarassery region, where a youth died after swallowing MDMA upon seeing the police. The deceased, identified as A.S. Shanid (28), had reportedly ingested MDMA capsules wrapped in plastic.
A medical examination at Kozhikode Medical College revealed two plastic packets containing the drug inside his stomach. Despite doctors warning that the substance could be fatal if mixed with stomach acids, Shanid refused surgery to remove the packets, even after his father urged him to proceed with the procedure. However, as preparations were being made for surgery the following day, Shanid succumbed to complications.
