Kochi: Ritu Jayan, the accused in the murder of three members of a family in Chendamangalam, has revealed the motive behind his attack. According to his statement to the police, he carried out the brutal assault because he and his family were mocked by the victims. Ritu is currently in the custody of the Vadakkekara police. Initial investigations suggest that he was not under the influence of any intoxicants at the time of the murders. He underwent a medical examination on Thursday night, and blood samples have been sent for testing.
Ritu Jayan (27), who works as a construction labourer in Bengaluru, had returned home a few days earlier. While riding his motorbike without a helmet and smoking a cigarette, he was stopped by the police near Kottukad. Without any hesitation, Ritu confessed to the police that he had killed four people. However, despite attacking the victims with an iron rod and a knife, there were no bloodstains on his clothes.

Ritu was then taken to the Vadakkekara police station, where he appeared calm and only responded to direct questions.
His neighbours had filed a complaint against Ritu with the police last November, accusing him of being a nuisance, but no action was taken. When summoned by the police, Ritu was released after his father assured them that he would arrange mental health treatment for his son. The police had been keeping him under periodic observation due to his inclusion in the goonda registry.
The gruesome murder, which shocked the locality, took place on Thursday at around 6 pm. The victims were Venu (69), his wife Usha (62) and their daughter Vinisha (32), all residents of Katipparambil at Perayepadam.
Vinisha’s husband Jithin Bose (35) sustained severe head injuries in the attack and is in critical condition on a ventilator at a private hospital at Cheranalloor in Ernakulam.
