Paravoor: In Ernakulam's Chendamangalam, the neighbour Vijayan who rushed to the scene described the shocking aftermath of an attack that left three family members dead and one critically injured.
“The door was open. Venu was lying there, struggling to breathe. Nearby, Jithin was down, and Vinisha and Usha were in the hall,” said Vijayan, who reached the home after the aftermath. He added that the house was full of blood, and Vinisha’s children, Aradhika and Awani, were crying in fear.
Locals who rushed to the scene found the victims in a gruesome state and immediately called for medical assistance. Vinisha was unwell when the accused entered the house. Venu, the head of the family, had been bedridden for several days due to health issues. Jithin, Vinisha's husband, had returned from the Gulf two months ago. "I have finished the four," the accused said during a phone call before leaving on Jithin’s scooter.
The incident occurred when Ritu Jayan, the neighbour, allegedly attacked Venu, his wife Usha, their daughter Vinisha, and son-in-law Jithin with an iron rod. While Venu, Usha, and Vinisha succumbed to their injuries, Jithin is undergoing treatment.
The accused reportedly fled the scene on Jithin’s scooter after the attack and surrendered at the police station. It is believed that the murder occurred after a heated argument between Ritu and the family, with whom he had a history of ongoing disputes.
The Panchayat Vice President Sreejith and others helped take the injured to the hospital. Despite Ritu being known for causing trouble in the area and having a prior excise case, the locals were unprepared for such a shocking incident.
