Thiruvananthapuram: In yet another shocking case of ragging in Kerala, following the horrific incident at Kottayam Nursing College, senior students at Kariyavattom Government College allegedly subjected first-year students to brutal physical assault and humiliation. Despite complaints being filed with Kazhakoottam Police, a case was registered only on one of the victim’s complaints.
The accused, identified as Alan, Anandan, Velu, Salman, Shravan, Parthan and Immanuel, have not yet been arrested. The victims also filed a complaint with the college principal, alleging severe ragging. Kazhakoottam police stated they would seek clarification from the principal.
The victims were allegedly attacked after being accused of “disrespect” by the seniors. The assailants took them to the campus union office, where they were mercilessly beaten. In a shocking act of humiliation, one of the juniors was forced to drink water after the seniors spat into the bottle. The accused also vandalised a parked motorbike belonging to one of the victims.
After lodging the complaint, one of the victims and his father visited Pangappara Health Centre for treatment, where the accused allegedly followed them and hurled caste-based abuses. However, in a twist, one of the accused filed a counter-complaint, claiming he was attacked by the victim and his father, leading to the police registering a case against them as well.
