Kochi: In the controversial Iran-based organ trade case, the investigating team, after getting information that three persons in Chennai and Coimbatore have fallen prey to the racket and that some of the gang members are hiding in Hyderabad, is set to go to Tamil Nadu and Telangana in search of donors as well as kingpins involved.
The police, in their probe, have found that Madhu, a Kochi native, is the kingpin of the organ trade racket. They have also raided the house of Madhu, who has been settled in Iran for the past 10 years. It was also found that Madhu had transferred money to the accounts of two members of the racket—Sabith Naser, hailing from Thrissur, and Ernakulam native Sajith Syam—who were earlier arrested by the police in the case.
Meanwhile, it was also found that a firm was functioning under the supervision of Sajith Syam in Kochi for the money transactions in the organ trade. The investigation team has received information that money was being transferred to the firm’s account in connection with the organ trades. However, no substantiating documents were recovered from the office.
After getting a tip that Palakkad native Shameer, who had sold kidneys through the racket, was in Coimbatore, the investigating team reached there. However, he managed to escape. Sabith, on the other hand, got involved in the racket after he tried to sell his own kidney. Later, he went to Iran and started working with Madhu.
Meanwhile, the interrogation of more people is being carried out on the basis of the phone records of Sabith and Sajith. It is learned that some persons, including a woman functioning in the health sector, are also taken into custody for questioning.
