Karumallur (Ernakulam): In a tragic sequence of events, a young woman committed suicide following a family dispute in Alangad, and her husband took his own life learning of her death. The deceased have been identified as Emmanuel (29) and wife, Maria Rose (21), residents of Manakkaparambu, Kongorpilly.

Emmanuel and Maria Rose have been living in Kongorpilly for the past two years after marriage. They were parents to two children, one of whom is just 28 days old. The incident unfolded on Saturday when Emmanuel fought with their neighbours, which subsequently led to a disagreement between him and Maria.

Following the quarrel, Maria locked herself in a room. Later, she was found hanging. Despite efforts of Emmanuel and his relatives to save her by rushing to a private hospital, Maria was pronounced dead. Overcome with grief, Emmanuel hanged himself in the hospital room upon receiving the news of his wife's death.

Police arrived at the scene and shifted the bodies to the Kalamassery Government Medical College Mortuary. An autopsy was conducted on Emmanuel. Both Emmanuel and Maria will be cremated at the Kongorpilly St. Antony's Church Cemetery after Maria Rose's post-mortem on Monday.
