In a shocking case of road rage, a 65-year-old man in Bengaluru had to undergo surgery after another driver bit his ring finger, reportedly in retaliation for rainwater splashing onto his vehicle. The incident occurred near the Lulu Mall underpass on Sunday night.

The victim, Jagannath Shekar, a resident of Magadi Road, was returning home with his wife and mother-in-law after dinner. The accused was driving a Kia car with a woman in the passenger seat. The car is registered under the Rajajinagar RTO.

How did the incident unfold?

At around 9 pm, Shekar’s car accidentally splashed stagnant rainwater on the other vehicle while crossing a signal. The accused allegedly chased and stopped Shekar’s vehicle, verbally abused him, and escalated the situation despite Shekar apologising. The altercation turned violent when the man dragged Shekar out of the car and bit his right-hand ring finger, causing a deep wound. The accused also reportedly punched Shekar in the face and tore his shirt.

The bite caused severe injuries that required immediate surgery at a private hospital in Sheshadripuram. Shekar received five stitches and spent nearly Rs 1.8 lakh on medical treatment. Doctors are monitoring his recovery.

Police action

An FIR has been filed by Shekar’s wife, Parvathi, at the local police station. The complaint accuses the driver and the woman of assault and criminal intimidation. Although police have the car registration details, no arrests had been made at the time of filing this report.

Investigators believe there was physical involvement from both sides but are yet to receive a counter-complaint from the accused. The case is under investigation, and officers are verifying the sequence of events using CCTV footage.
