New Delhi: Delhi Police have arrested three individuals for their involvement in an immigration fraud case after a man from Punjab was caught trying to travel to Canada on a fake passport.

The incident occurred on 10 April at Indira Gandhi International Airport when a passenger holding an Indian passport under the name Kamaljeet Singh attempted to board a flight to Toronto. During routine immigration checks, officials noticed discrepancies in the photograph on the passport and grew suspicious.

Upon questioning, the passenger admitted his real identity as Manpreet Singh, aged 40, and a resident of Mohali, Punjab. In a statement released by Delhi Police on Wednesday, Manpreet revealed that he had paid Rs 20 lakh in advance to a travel agent, Rupender Singh (29), as part of a Rs 32 lakh deal to travel to Canada using forged documents.

He was introduced to Rupender through a friend and later met two of his associates, Harish Chaudhary (24) from Gujarat and Vishal Dhiman (27) from Uttar Pradesh, at a hotel in Mahipalpur, Delhi. It was at this hotel that the fake passport was handed over to him before the agents escorted him to the airport.

Following the incident, Delhi Police tracked and arrested all three accused — Rupender, Harish, and Vishal — from Himachal Pradesh.

A senior police officer confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered and investigations are ongoing to trace the financial transactions and examine whether the accused are part of a wider immigration racket.
