An Indian Air Force Wing Commander has been arrested for allegedly falling victim to a honey trap operated by Pakistani intelligence operatives and sharing sensitive defence-related information, officials said.

The officer was under active surveillance before his arrest and has since been handed over to law enforcement agencies, according to IAF officials. He is currently in judicial custody and has been booked under provisions of the Official Secrets Act for allegedly sharing classified information and confidential defence documents.

The IAF said the officer was caught following proactive measures and reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards such offences.

“He was under active surveillance and was handed over to the suitable law enforcement agencies. Due to proactive measures, he was caught. The IAF has zero tolerance for such activities,” IAF officials said.

Officer allegedly honey-trapped through social media

According to Delhi Police sources, the Wing Commander allegedly came in contact with Pakistani intelligence operatives through social media and was subsequently honey-trapped.

Sources said the officer is accused of sharing sensitive defence-related information and confidential documents. He is also alleged to have installed data-stealing software on a colleague’s mobile phone in an attempt to gain control of the device.

The arrest followed specific inputs shared by the IAF intelligence wing with the Delhi Police, sources said.

Further investigation into the case is underway.

Earlier Pakistan espionage case in Rajasthan

The case comes after a resident of Alwar was arrested last year for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI, police said.

Rajasthan Police had said a surveillance operation was being conducted in the state following Operation Sindoor. During surveillance in the cantonment area of Alwar, the activities of Mangat Singh were found to be suspicious.

Police alleged that Singh had been honey-trapped by a woman posing as a Pakistani handler under the pseudonym Isha Sharma. She allegedly offered him money in exchange for cooperation.

According to police, Singh had been in contact with Pakistani handlers through social media platforms for around two years.

The investigation into the latest case involving the IAF officer is continuing.
