Kochi: The Ernakulam Police nabbed a man with alleged ties to an international drug syndicate from Bengaluru. The person was nabbed with the help of Bengaluru police.
Rengara Paul (29), a Congolese national, was detained in Madiwala, by a joint task force comprising Ernakulam Rural District Police Chief Dr. Vaibhav Saxena and the Bengaluru Mico Layout Police.
Paul, known as 'Captain' within drug trafficking circles, arrived in Bengaluru on a student visa in 2014. Instead of pursuing his studies, he became embroiled in drug trafficking. In addition to smuggling drugs, he is suspected of manufacturing synthetic substances using a process known as 'cook', with sales reaching millions.
Reports suggest that Paul's gang is a significant supplier of drugs to Kerala.
Police describe Paul's modus operandi as highly clandestine, with no direct contact allowed via phone. Transactions were conducted through online platforms such as Google Pay. Once payment was received, drugs were stashed in remote locations, with details shared with buyers.
Last month, police apprehended Vipin with 200 grams of MDMA while attempting to transport drugs via a tourist bus from Bengaluru. This arrest led to Paul's capture, following days of intensive surveillance.
As part of Operation 'Clean', Ernakulam Rural Police have registered 745 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) in the last six months.
