A woman in Agra died by suicide after accusing a police constable she lived with for four years of exploitation and refusing to marry her, leaving behind videos that triggered his suspension and a police investigation.

An Agra woman died by suicide after accusing a police constable she had been living with of years of physical and mental exploitation and refusing to marry her despite repeated promises, police said.
Before taking the extreme step, the woman recorded several videos in which she alleged that the constable, identified as JV Gautam and posted at Tajganj police station, had been in a live-in relationship with her for the past four years. '
In the videos, she claimed that he had kept her “like a wife” during this period on the promise that he would eventually marry her.
According to the woman, the relationship later deteriorated when Gautam allegedly refused to marry her, citing opposition from his family. She further alleged that she had been subjected to physical and mental harassment during the course of their relationship.
The woman also claimed that when she approached the local police station seeking help and attempting to file a complaint, she was allegedly told that no action could be taken against the constable and that he would escape punishment.
In the videos that surfaced on social media after her death, the woman accused the constable and his family of manipulating and mentally tormenting her. She said that after years of living together, Gautam was now preparing to marry another woman.
“His elder brother, on one hand, is telling me to get married. And on the other hand, JV Gautam told me that his family would not allow him to marry me,” she said in one of the videos, urging that no other woman should be deceived similarly.
She also directly blamed the constable and his family for pushing her to the brink, saying they had mentally disturbed and manipulated her to such an extent that she felt compelled to end her life.
In her final appeal, the woman addressed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that she had not received justice while alive and expressing hope that justice would be served after her death.
Preliminary information suggests the woman was originally from Kasganj district in Uttar Pradesh. She had reportedly been divorced earlier and was working in a private job in Agra when she met the constable.
Following the circulation of the videos and growing public attention, senior police officials suspended Constable JV Gautam. After a complaint was filed by the woman’s father, a case was registered against him, and an investigation into the allegations has been initiated.
The woman’s family, devastated by her death, has demanded strict action against the accused and justice for their daughter.
