New York: In a powerful message following his historic victory, New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani on Wednesday, directly challenged US President Donald Trump, who has recently launched a nationwide crackdown on immigration.

Mamdani, who made history by becoming the first South Asian and Muslim to be elected as Mayor of New York City, vowed that the city will continue to be defined by its immigrant spirit.

“New York will be powered by immigrants and, after this election, will be led by an immigrant,” he declared to roaring cheers from his supporters.

Taking aim at Trump’s immigration policies, Mamdani asserted, “To get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us.”

In a moment that drew thunderous applause, Mamdani addressed Trump directly, saying, “So, Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you — Turn the volume up.”

Mamdani’s triumph marks a major political shift in the city’s leadership. He defeated political heavyweight and former New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, as well as Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa, in a closely watched mayoral race that drew national attention.
