A vibrant new tourist destination has opened near Velankanni in Tamil Nadu's Nagapattinam district, offering visitors a unique wildlife experience. Spread across 3.5 acres, the newly inaugurated Velankanni Bird Park is home to more than 500 varieties of birds, making it one of the region's newest family attractions.

Visitors are welcomed by towering emus and ostriches before exploring enclosures filled with colourful parrots, lovebirds, cockatiels, and several exotic bird species from around the world. The park's lively atmosphere, filled with fluttering wings and birdsong, creates an engaging experience for people of all ages.

Park Administrator Gajendran said the bird park has been established in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Tourism Department to promote family tourism. He added that children can spend hours exploring the park while enjoying nature away from mobile phones.

Beyond its extensive bird collection, the attraction also features rabbits, an air-conditioned aquarium showcasing various fish species, and dedicated enclosures for other animals, offering visitors a complete recreational experience.

Nagapattinam is already renowned for the annual arrival of migratory birds at Point Calimere (Kodiyakarai), while nearby Velankanni Basilica attracts millions of pilgrims every year.
