Khurja, Uttar Pradesh: Potters in Khurja, known nationwide for its exquisite pottery, are optimistic ahead of the Union Budget 2026, hoping for measures that will support their thriving craft.

The town, located in Bulandshahr district, is recognised under the state’s One District-One Product policy for its pottery industry. Traders and artisans across hundreds of pottery units say the recent reduction in Goods and Services Tax (GST) has already been a welcome boost for business.

Now, pottery traders are looking forward to possible income tax relief in the upcoming Budget, which could allow them to retain more capital, expand operations, and increase exports of Khurja’s renowned craftworks.

“Work is going well, demand has grown, and earnings have been promising,” said a seasoned craftsperson. “Measures like anti-dumping and tax reliefs have helped in the past. We hope the government introduces similar steps to support our industry and help us grow our businesses and reach international markets.”

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the Budget in February 2026.
