A deep-sea swimming team in Chennai marked India’s historic T20 World Cup victory in a unique way, by playing cricket nearly 50 feet under the sea.
Led by coach Aravind, the group of divers celebrated the triumph off the coast of Neelankarai by donning scuba gear, carrying a bat and ball underwater, and recreating the spirit of cricket beneath the waves. The team also proudly waved the Indian national flag as part of the celebration.
India clinched the T20 World Cup title after defeating New Zealand in the final, becoming the first nation to win the tournament three times. The victory adds to India’s previous triumphs in 2007 and 2024.
To honour the achievement, Aravind and his team decided to take the celebrations underwater, turning the deep sea into an unconventional cricket ground. The divers played a brief match at a depth of around 50 feet, demonstrating both their diving skills and their passion for cricket.
