Speculation over whether actor Tovino Thomas could eventually step into politics came up during his interaction with a PTI reporter after he cast his vote in the 2026 Kerala Assembly polls on Thursday. The actor, who arrived at the polling station with his family, also spoke at length about voting, democracy and public responsibility.

The polling day saw film actors participating in large numbers, reflecting voter enthusiasm in the high-stakes election in Kerala, where multiple political fronts are in contention.

‘Right and responsibility to protect democracy’

Tovino Thomas said he has never missed voting and described it as a civic duty.

"It is our right and responsibility to protect democracy," he said. He also remarked on actors entering politics, noting that those who make the transition often leave behind their film careers and are serious about their work, though electoral success and political growth remain separate challenges. 

‘I don’t think I can handle so much stress’

Responding to questions from a PTI reporter, Tovino said:

"I don't have any agendas. I don't know if we need a change also. I mean, it's democracy.

Everyone has their right and it's also their duty to cast a vote. And it's not one person who decides anything. So, I believe I'm ready to wait till May 4th when the results come. And whoever comes to the power, I only wish luck and only wish good for them. And I hope they'll do really well as a government."

When asked, "Do you plan to enter the parliament?"

He replied:

"I don't think I can handle so much stress. I have friends who are in politics and I know how stressful the job is. I think cinema is stressful and this is even more stressful. So, I don't think in the near future I'll be entering politics. But I have my clear political views that always remain the same."
