Dindigul hosts All-India rooster exhibition; rare ₹3 lakh fan-tailed bird steals the show
A rare fan-tailed rooster valued at ₹3 lakh became the star attraction at the All-India Poultry Exhibition in Dindigul, which featured over 500 birds from across the country.
Dindigul played host to a grand All-India-level rooster exhibition, where a rare fan-tailed rooster, valued at an astonishing ₹3 lakh, emerged as the centre of attention. The event saw the participation of over 500 roosters from across the country.
Organised by the All India Rooster Breeders Friends Group, the exhibition aims to conserve and promote native rooster breeds that are gradually facing extinction. The event, dedicated to parrot-beak and fan-tailed roosters, marked its 11th edition this year and drew interest from breeders and visitors alike.
Rooster breeders from states including Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka and Maharashtra travelled to Dindigul to showcase their prized birds. Tamil Nadu also saw strong representation, with roosters brought in from Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur, Tiruchirappalli and Chennai.
The birds were judged by a panel of appointed experts on parameters such as height, beak structure, tail formation, comb and overall appearance. Owners of the best roosters were rewarded with attractive prizes, including LED televisions, furniture and other household items.
A standout attraction was a fan-tailed rooster that was reportedly valued at ₹3 lakh. Despite receiving offers, the owner declined to sell the bird, underlining its rarity and emotional value.
The exhibition also captivated visitors with stories of dedication among breeders, some of whom travelled distances of nearly 1,000 to 2,000 kilometres by car. The careful way in which the roosters were transported—often treated like family members—left many attendees amazed.
