Tourists rang in the New Year amid fresh snowfall as Gulmarg and Sonamarg turned into picturesque winter wonderlands in Kashmir.

Fresh snowfall transformed Kashmir’s famed hill destinations into a winter paradise as tourists rang in the New Year surrounded by pristine white landscapes. Popular resorts such as Gulmarg were blanketed in snow, offering visitors a picture-perfect setting to welcome 2026.
Tourists were seen soaking in the serene beauty, capturing moments against snow-laden slopes and enjoying the calm that defines Kashmir’s winter charm. Similar scenes unfolded in Sonamarg, another favourite destination, where visitors experienced the season’s quiet magic amid snow-covered mountains.
For many local residents, especially those whose livelihoods depend on tourism, the winter rush has brought renewed optimism. Locals have encouraged travellers to explore the region during the colder months, describing Kashmir in winter as a virtual wonderland.
The renewed tourist activity comes as the region works to rebuild confidence following a reported decline in visitor numbers after the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025. To boost tourism, the local administration, in collaboration with tourism stakeholders, has been organising a series of events across the valley, aiming to reassure travellers and highlight Kashmir’s enduring appeal as a safe and scenic winter destination.
