Ramnagar: A mother elephant rushed to the rescue of her month-old calf after it was swept away by strong currents in the Kosi River in the Ramnagar-Corbett landscape.

Wildlife photographer Deep Rajwar captured the emotional moment on camera as an elephant herd crossed the river. According to Rajwar, the herd had three calves, two of which managed to cross safely. The youngest calf, believed to be barely a month old, was caught in the strong current.

As the calf was carried away, it reportedly raised its trunk towards its mother. The mother elephant immediately moved towards the calf and helped guide it safely back towards the riverbank.

Corbett Tiger Reserve Director Saket Badola said elephants are known for their strong maternal instincts. He noted that female elephants lead herds and that mothers and other female elephants often show strong care and affection towards calves.

The footage offers a striking glimpse of the protective bond between elephant mothers and their young in the wild.
