A handcrafted wristwatch from Jaipur has surged in popularity after Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen wearing it during the recent flag-hoisting ceremony at the Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir in Ayodhya.

Created by the Jaipur Watch Company, the timepiece belongs to the brand’s Bagh Collection and carries a distinctive memorabilia element, an original one-rupee coin from 1947 featuring a walking tiger.

Gaurav Mehta, owner, Jaipur Watch Company :"The watch we are talking about belongs to the Bagh Collection, which we launched on 15th August 2022. Its uniqueness lies in the coin placed on top, inscribed with “1947 India” and featuring a walking tiger, which has a strong resemblance with Make in India logo, so this makes this watch truly special. Along with that world-class materials has been used in its creation. It is crafted with surgical-grade stainless steel, sapphire crystal, and a premium automatic movement, for these reasons, this watch is special."

The company says it was an unexpected yet proud moment to see the prime minister support Indian craftsmanship by choosing their product.

He further adds that, "It is a big thing that the Prime Minister is using it. For me, it was also a surprise because we never met the Prime Minister and gave him the watch, so I don’t even know how it reached him. But if the Prime Minister is using it, then he has given a strong message to the Make in India and Swadeshi movement, by personally leading it forward showing that products made in India can also be superior. And if he himself is using it, then Indians should also not hesitate in using superior Indian products."

Priced at around ₹55,000, the Bagh Collection offers nine variants, each featuring a coin from the 1947 series. According to the company, the watches combine modern luxury with vintage heritage, are waterproof, and have scratch-resistant sapphire glass and stainless steel casings.
