Crumbling Keni bridge in Bihar raises fear of major disaster
The Keni Bridge over the Falgu River in Bihar’s Gaya district has triggered major safety concerns after IIT Patna experts declared it “highly vulnerable.”
The deteriorating condition of the Keni Bridge over the Falgu River in Bihar’s Gaya district has sparked serious safety concerns among local residents, even as vehicles continue to use the structure daily. Damaged pillars and exposed iron rods have raised fears of a possible collapse.
A recent inspection by experts from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna reportedly declared the bridge “highly vulnerable” and recommended immediate repairs. Villagers claim officials marked damaged sections with red paint and suggested barricading the bridge, but no restrictions have been imposed so far.
Residents say the bridge is a crucial lifeline for nearby villages and fear a collapse could lead to major loss of life. They have urged the government to construct a new bridge before tragedy strikes.
Bihar Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr. Prem Kumar confirmed receiving complaints and said the state government is surveying vulnerable bridges across Bihar to prevent accidents and take action where needed.
