Janmashtami 2026: Krishna’s life brought alive through grand tableaux in Prayagraj
Ahead of Janmashtami, colourful tableaux depicting Lord Krishna's birth, Govardhan Leela and other episodes are being prepared in Prayagraj.
Ahead of Janmashtami, preparations are underway at the historic Katra Ramlila grounds in Prayagraj, where colourful tableaux depicting some of the most celebrated episodes from the life of Lord Krishna are being given their final touches. From Krishna's birth in a prison cell to the lifting of Govardhan Parvat and the slaying of demons, the displays aim to bring his stories alive through elaborate decorations, lighting, sound and mechanical effects.
Artisans are working on around 10 tableaux featuring different episodes, including Govardhan Leela, Krishna's birth, the killing of Kuvalayapida, Krishna saving Nanda Baba from a python and the Raas Leela. The preparations are expected to be completed ahead of the Janmashtami celebrations.
The festivities will also feature stage performances depicting various episodes from Lord Krishna's life. According to the Shri Katra Ramlila Committee, around 12 to 13 tableaux are being prepared as part of the celebrations, tracing stories from Krishna's birth to his battles against demons.
The tableaux will remain on display for six days, from September 4 to September 9, offering devotees and visitors a visual journey through some of the most cherished stories associated with Lord Krishna.
