The BCCI has banned smart sunglasses in IPL 2026, citing anti-corruption and security concerns over devices capable of live streaming, messaging, and video calling within restricted player and match official areas.
The BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Security Unit (ACSU) has banned the use of smart sunglasses by players and match officials during the ongoing IPL, citing concerns over their advanced communication capabilities. In an advisory sent to franchises, the Board said these smart devices can support live streaming, text messaging, and audio-video calls through Wi-Fi or mobile data, making them a security risk inside the Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA). The BCCI classified the gadgets as both communication and recording devices under IPL 2026 minimum standards and declared their possession or use within PMOA strictly prohibited. Players and support staff have been instructed to deposit smart sunglasses along with mobile phones and smartwatches before entering restricted areas on match days. The move comes amid growing concerns over code of conduct violations in IPL 2026, with the board also tightening rules on late-night outings and hotel guest access due to security and honey-trapping fears.
