India–Japan joint military exercise ‘Dharma Guardian’ underway to boost operational coordination
The 7th edition of the India–Japan joint military exercise ‘Dharma Guardian’ is being held in Almora, with troops from the Indian Army and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force conducting tactical drills to enhance interoperability and strengthen defence cooperation.
The 7th edition of the India–Japan joint military exercise ‘Dharma Guardian’ is currently underway at the Foreign Training Centre in Chaubatia village of Almora.
Around 120 personnel, each from the Indian Army and the Japan Ground Self-Defence Force, are taking part in the exercise. The drill aims to strengthen coordination and improve joint operational capabilities in semi-urban combat environments.

During the exercise, troops are engaging in a range of tactical activities such as establishing operational bases, carrying out intelligence and surveillance operations, setting up vehicle checkpoints, and conducting cordon-and-search operations.
Officials said the training focuses on improving interoperability between the two forces while also allowing soldiers to share operational experiences and best practices.
Senior military officials added that the exercise, which will continue until March 9, reflects the growing defence cooperation between India and Japan and underscores their shared commitment to strengthening regional security and strategic partnership.
